Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)

We hope you will give us your views on the information provided and tell us if there are additional issues you need information about. Please click here to complete a feedback form

To improve health, well-being and independence for people in North East Lincolnshire requires individuals, communities and service providers to work together. The right support to help people to look after themselves needs to be in place and readily accessible. This means we need to commission the best quality services that meet people’s needs effectively and timely and that make the best use of available resources – services that deliver better outcomes based on local priorities. For this to happen we have to understand people’s health and social needs.

The JSNA for North East Lincolnshire aims to help in this process. It is an over-arching needs assessment. It consists of JSNA over-arching annual reports, starting in 2008, which review a range of the most up-to-date information to identify key issues for the general population, for children and for older people. This information base includes our many previously published, very comprehensive health and social needs assessments for study population groups, health issues or social issues. It also includes equity audits and health impact assessments. Although the main research for these is by local survey, focus groups or interviews with people and can only be undertaken every few years, they also use routinely available data, some of which can be updated annually. The JSNA also includes short needs assessment update reports for these, providing the most recent available data. A recommended core data set is included and for each indicator in this there is again a short summary report. Many of these also have a supporting spreadsheet containing numbers and rates to provide additional detail. Summary reports are available for some of the national indicators included in the core data set and there are more summary reports for locally chosen data and indicators.

How you use the JSNA information will depend on whether you are interested in improving overall health and well-being in North East Lincolnshire or in particular neighbourhoods or community groups, or interested in a particular health or social issue. It will depend on whether you need summary information from the annual reports or the detailed information from core data set summaries and spreadsheets or from needs assessments.
